ASTET STUDIO REVEALS NEW DESIGN FOR AETHOS MONTEROSA
The Barcelona-based studio reinterprets the Alpine chalet for a new era of mountain hospitality

Champoluc, October 2025 – Astet Studio has shared its design for Aethos Monterosa ahead of the hotel’s winter reopening in December 2025. The project reinterprets the Alpine chalet through a contemporary lens, using honest materials, strong forms, and carefully controlled detailing to create a space that feels rooted in its landscape.
The renovation includes the construction of a new wing with 23 suites and the reworking of the hotel’s existing interiors. Astet’s concept draws directly from the surrounding environment of Val d’Ayas. Timber, stone and forged metal set the tone of the architecture, echoing the valley’s colours and textures. These elements define the character of the interiors and establish a clear dialogue between the building and its setting.
The chalet typology has been reimagined rather than replicated. Traditional Alpine elements such as steep roofs, deep reveals and warm cores are translated into simple architectural gestures with clean lines and clear proportions. Surfaces are stripped back to their essence, creating spaces that are calm and tactile.
“Our starting point was the landscape,” say Ala Zreigat and Oscar Engroba, founders of Astet Studio. “Every material, texture, pattern, and piece has been chosen and designed carefully, creating interiors that feel naturally part of the valley.”

The new wing has been designed as a continuation of the original structure. Its form aligns with the existing massing, and the suites have been oriented to make the most of daylight and views of the surrounding peaks. Consistent detailing throughout the building allows guests to move through the hotel without a visual break, from the lobby to the spa and dining spaces.
The relationship between the building and the landscape is central to the project. Large windows frame the mountains, earthy tones mirror the colours of the valley, and outdoor spaces extend the experience of the interiors. A newly landscaped garden and a panoramic pool bring guests closer to the natural environment.
Craftsmanship plays a key role in the design. Bespoke timber joinery, stone plinths and finely profiled metalwork give the hotel its distinct identity. Every element has been considered for its material quality, texture and contribution to the overall architectural language.
With this project, Astet Studio continues its focus on creating spaces that build a close connection between people and place. The redesigned Aethos Monterosa is preparing to welcome guests this winter, offering an alpine retreat shaped by local materials, precise detailing and the character of its landscape.
